Pune Wholesale Market Witnesses Surge In Fruits And Vegetables Amidst Rainfall

Market Yard, 27th August 2023: Sunday witnessed a surge in the inflow of fruits and vegetables at the wholesale market, attributed to recent days of consistent rainfall. As a result, prices of various produce, including staples like onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, curry leaves, brinjals, capsicum, and ghewdas, registered a noteworthy decline of 10 to 20 percent.

 

Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard in Gultekdi received an impressive influx of 100 to 110 truckloads of fruits and vegetables on Sunday (August 27), originating from both within the Maharashtra state and from other states. Traders confirmed that the surge in arrivals can be attributed to the rain, leading to a visible price drop across most varieties of fruits and vegetables.

 

Notable among the arrivals were 10 to 12 Tempo loads of Green Chillies from Karnataka and Gujarat, 3 to 4 Tempo loads of Cabbages from Karnataka, 4 to 5 Tempo loads of Shevagas from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 4 to 5 Tempo loads of Ghewdas from Karnataka, 1 Tempo load of Groundnut Legumes from Gujarat, 6 to 7 Tempo loads of Carrots from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and 8 to 10 tempos of garlic from Gujarat. Additionally, 40 to 45 truckloads of potatoes were received from Agra, Indore, and Pune, as informed by Vilas Bhujbal, the head of the wholesale market.

 

Other arrivals included 600 to 700 sacks of Satari ginger from Pune division, 9 to 10 thousand boxes of tomatoes, 8 to 10 tempos of flowers, 5 to 6 tempos of cabbages, 7 to 8 tempos of peas from the Purandar, Wai in Satara, 6 to 7 tempos of okra, 6 to 7 tempos of guars, 5 to 6 tempos of cabbages, 100 to 125 sacks of groundnut legumes, 14 to 15 tempos of chillies, 10 tempos of cucumbers, 10 to 12 tempos of red pumpkins, and an impressive 100 trucks loaded with onions.

 

The surge in arrivals and subsequent price drop underscore the impact of recent rainfall on the local produce market, providing a favorable scenario for consumers seeking fresh fruits and vegetables.
