Pune: “We Will Seek 20 Seats for RPI in Maharashtra Elections” – Ramdas Athawale
Pune, 10th September 2024: Against the backdrop of the upcoming legislative elections in Maharashtra, every party has begun strategizing their campaigns. Discussions regarding seat allocations among the three main parties in the Mahayuti alliance have also commenced, with the Republican Party of India – Athawale (RPI-A) putting forward its demands. Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale announced that they will seek 20 seats for the elections. He made this statement at a press conference in Pune, where he also addressed other issues concerning Maharashtra.
Ramdas Athawale said, “In the last elections, we contested in 13 places and won in 5. In the Lok Sabha elections, we requested 2 seats, but Mahayuti did not grant them. If we had been given the Shirdi Lok Sabha constituency, former MP Sujay Vikhe Patil would have been elected. For the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections, we aim to contest for 20 seats.”
Ramdas Athawale further emphasized that the RPI is a nationally recognized party and it is important for Mahayuti to give it proper attention. He also stated that all three parties in Mahayuti are responsible for respecting the RPI and expressed hope that they would consider the RPI’s demands.
“Party with Most MLAs Gets Chief Ministerial Post”
“Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently the largest party in the Mahayuti with 105 MLAs, while Ajit Pawar’s group has 41 and Shinde’s group has 40. Despite having the most MLAs, Devendra Fadnavis showed great magnanimity by allowing Eknath Shinde to become Chief Minister. The party with the most MLAs should be given the Chief Minister position, and the party with fewer seats should be allocated the Deputy Chief Minister role. The Chief Ministerial candidates for Mahavikas Aghadi and Mahayuti have not yet been decided, so the situation will become clear only after the elections,” said Athawale.
