Pune: Water Discharge From Khadakwasla Dam Likely To Start In Two Days, Citizens Cautioned

Pune 24th July 2023: The district administration in Pune has cautioned the citizens to take precautions as water discharge from Khadakwasla dam is likely to start in the next 24 to 48 hours following the continuous rainfall reported in the catchment area.

“Due to continuous rainfall reported in the catchment area, the water level in the Khadakwasla dam is increasing rapidly. The dam has been filled upto 82% of its capacity and theere is a strong possibility of water discharge into Mutha River to start in the next 24 to 48 hours” the officials said.

“The citizens have been advised not to enter into the river basin and remove animals or any material kept in it. Citizens in the low lying areas should be alerted and everyone should take appropriate precautions” an official of irrigation department said in a message.

The catchment areas in the district have been receiving good rainfall for the last few days. According to the official reports, the collective water storage in four dams Khadakwasla, Temghar, Panshet and Warasgaon was 17.21 TMC on July 24 compared to 20.48% reported on the same day last year.
