Pune: Water Discharge From Khadakwasla Dam Increased To 2,568 Cusecs

Pune 30th Sept 2023: The heavy rainfall reported in the last few days in the Pune city and adjoining areas has helped increase the water levels in the dams that supply water to the city. Khadakwasla dam which is the main source of water for Pune city is also filled upto 100% of its capacity. As a result, the irrigation department has started discharging water into Mutha river that passes from the heart of the city.

According to officials, the catchment areas have received good rainfall due to which the water level in Khadakwasla dam has increased. As a result, the water discharge started with 856 Cusecs at 11 pm on Friday pm which was later increased to 1,712 Cusecs at 12 am and 2,568 Cusecs from 3 am on Saturday.

The officials have asked the citizens living around the river to take appropriate precautions and remove their belongings including animals from the river basin. Decisions to further increase or reduce the water discharge will be taken based on rainfall reported in the catchment areas. The water levels in the four dams in the Khadakwasla cluster has also increased. According to official data, the accumulative storage in the four dams has reached 97.30% (28.36 TMC) compared to 99.83% (29.10 TMC) reported on the same day last year.
