Pune: Violent Attack at Yerawada Jail Leaves MCOCA Inmate Seriously Injured

Yerawada, 18th June 2024: In Pune’s renowned Yerawada Central Jail, which houses criminals from across the country, a disturbing incident has come to light. Yesterday, an inmate held under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was attacked by another group of inmates, resulting in serious injuries.

The injured inmate, identified as Yogesh Jagdish Sonawane, has been swiftly transported to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment, as his injuries include serious wounds to his stomach.

Sonawane, who was arrested for robbery and had MCOCA charges against him, was awaiting a hearing scheduled in front of Special Judge PP Jadhav on 21st June. Although he had been released earlier on robbery charges, he was re-arrested due to the MCOCA implications.
