Pune 3rd July 2023: The district collector of Raigad-Alibaug has issued an order to close the Varandha Ghat on the Bhor-Mahad road for the traffic movement of heavy vehicles due to the possibility of landslides during monsoon. This will impact the travellers on this route as they will have to take a long route via Tamhini Ghat to reach their destinations.

According to the officials, the Bhor-Mahad road will remain closed for the heavy vehicles between July 1 and September 30. It may be noted that the route remained closed during the monsoon last year as well. According to the directive, vehicle operators must comply with the order, and the Mahad Police have also been instructed to enforce it.

Frequent landslides are reported on this route during monsoon every year and this is the shortest route for travellers that connects Vidharbha with Konkan region in the state. However, since the road is now going to remain closed for the next three months the heavy vehicle operators will have to travel via Tamhini Ghat in Pune which will increase the distance of their journey.
