Pune, 15th April 2023: Due to untimely stormy rains in the Pune district, vegetables, and fruits have suffered huge damage. Mango, grapes, figs, Sapodilla (Chikku), Malabar Plum, and vegetables along with onion, and tomato are the most affected by this rain.

The district administration on Friday (14th April) informed that since there is an order to make a report of damage, it will be done soon.

In the district, crops have been damaged due to strong wind rather than rain. In some places, trees and electricity poles have been uprooted. Houses and barns have collapsed. In some places, the steel patras on the houses have been blown away.

Due to a lightning strike, a dairy cow at Patil settlement in Nimgaon Ketki of Indapur taluka has died. The sugarcanes has fallen to the ground. Among the vegetable crops, leafy vegetables such as fenugreek, coriander, spinach, dill leaves, spinach dock, green chilies, brinjal, bitter melon, ridge gourd luffa, onion, tomato, potato, and cucumber have been affected.

April is considered a summer month. In this month, wheat, sorghum, and gram crops have been recently harvested. Therefore, as soon as these crops are removed from the farms, the pre-cultivation works for the Kharif season crops are started.

After the end of the Kesar mango season in the state, Kesar mangoes from Junnar in the Pune district come to the market. This Kesar mango usually comes to the market in June every year.

This Kesar mango from Junnar has just had its second spring. But due to the storm that has been going on for two days, this second spring has also fallen. Therefore, it is clear that the arrival of Kesar mangoes from Junnar will decrease this year.
