Pune, 9th July 2024: The recruitment process for 111 vacancies of professors across various departments of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has been stalled for six months due to technical difficulties. Currently, scrutiny of the received applications is ongoing, and now candidates from Socially and Economically Backward (SEBC) categories will also be allowed to apply. Hence, eligible candidates may need to wait longer.

Initiated in December 2023, the recruitment drive garnered significant attention due to the absence of recent recruitments at SPPU. This resulted in approximately 5,000 applications being submitted for these positions. However, technical issues halted the process for three months during the Lok Sabha elections. Furthermore, the Maharashtra State Government’s implementation of SEBC reservations necessitated adjustments in the application process. SPPU has now completed the technical preparations, including the points list verification, and SEBC candidates will soon be invited to apply online. Following this, a scrutiny period will ensue, alongside the establishment of selection committees for each subject. The subsequent interview stage implies further waiting for the candidates.

Across Maharashtra, aspirants have awaited this recruitment for the past six months. With the upcoming assembly elections imposing another code of conduct, concerns have surfaced among eligible candidates regarding the likelihood of completing the recruitment process before its implementation.

Candidates from socially and economically backward sections will have an opportunity to submit their applications. Once all technical aspects of the recruitment process are completed, the interview stage will commence.”
