Pune: U.S. Consulate Mumbai Hosts Future of AI and STEM Education Event at Kendriya Vidyalaya

Aundh, 1st August 2024: The U.S. Consulate in Mumbai held a unique and engaging event on the Future of AI and STEM education at Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Ganeshkhind Road, today. During the event, 115 school girls from 13 KV schools had candid conversations with AI expert and entrepreneur Mercedes Soria. Soria praised the spirit of the KV students, who expressed a strong interest in pursuing AI as a subject specialization in the future. She emphasized that nothing is impossible for these students.

Mercedes Soria addressed the students in Pune as well as industry experts. She spoke about her journey as a woman in STEM and the evolving landscape of AI technology. Soria commended the robotic prototypes created by the girls from KV schools.

Mercedes Soria is the Executive Vice President of Software Engineering and the Chief Intelligence Officer at Knightscope Inc., a robotics security company that combines self-driving technology, robotics, and artificial intelligence to predict and combat crime. She is also a STEM advocate and mentor for the U.S. Department of State’s TechWomen initiative. Previously, she was a senior software engineer with Deloitte and Touche. Soria has received several awards, including the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing’s ABIE Award.

She is a member of the Forbes Technology Council and has been named one of the most influential women in Silicon Valley. She was awarded the GHC ABIE Award for Leadership and was shortlisted for the Innovator of the Year Award for Women in IT in Silicon Valley. Mercedes is also a speaker for the U.S. Department of State on technology and women in STEM. As part of the U.S. Department of State’s TechWomen program, she coaches women in STEM fields from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, advising them on technology and entrepreneurship.
