Pune: Tuition Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Harassment of 15-Year-Old Student

Mundhwa, 29th August 2024: A 38-year-old tuition teacher was arrested by Pune police on Tuesday night for allegedly sexually harassing a 15-year-old girl on August 26. The incident took place in Mundhwa, where the girl, a Standard X student, had been attending the teacher’s tuition classes since June to prepare for her SSC exams.

The teacher was presented before a special court on Wednesday, where he was placed in police custody until August 29.

Senior Inspector Nilkant Jagtap of the Mundhwa police station provided details of the case. “The girl reported that after the other students had left the class, the teacher asked her to stay behind under the guise of conducting a written test,” Jagtap said. “During this time, he allegedly made inappropriate comments that made her uncomfortable and proceeded to touch her inappropriately,” he added, referring to the girl’s complaint.

Following the girl’s report, the police registered a case against the teacher under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which covers offenses related to outraging modesty, criminal force, and sexual harassment.
