Budhwar Peth, 20th September 2024: A truck belonging to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and two motorcycles fell into a sinkhole that unexpectedly appeared on the premises of the City Post Office on Laxmi Road in Budhwar Peth, Pune. The incident, which was caught on CCTV, took over three hours for the Fire Brigade to resolve and remove the truck.

According to the PMC Fire Brigade, the incident occurred around 4 PM. A truck from the PMC Solid Waste Department had arrived to clean the drainage line. While reversing, the driver lost control, causing the truck to plunge into the deep pit, pulling two nearby motorcycles with it. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape just in time, saving his life.

PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale explained, “There was an old well here, which had been covered with a slab. Since this drainage vehicle is heavy, the slab gave way, leading to the incident. The truck has now been removed with the help of two cranes. An investigation will be conducted. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.”
