Pimpri Chinchwad, 17th October 2023: Kalewadi Phata’s Gajanan Nagar residents are grappling with recurring electrical transformer failures, resulting in power outages every two to three months. The issue has struck three times in the past six months, leaving the community in darkness and affecting water supply for over ten hours during repair times.

The extended outages are causing educational setbacks for students who rely on online classes and are making remote work nearly impossible for professionals. The lack of power also impacts borewell-dependent water supply, posing health and sanitation risks.

Local authorities describe the failures as “occasional” and suggest recent roadwork could be a contributing factor. Despite these claims, residents yearn for a more permanent solution.

The daily outages lasting more than ten hours have made it challenging for students to keep up with their online classes, assignments, and exams. Working professionals also find it extremely difficult to maintain productivity, as work-from-home becomes an impractical option during these periods.

The problem extends beyond electricity. Many households depend on borewells for water, making them vulnerable to outages. The lack of water not only affects daily chores but also raises serious health and sanitation concerns.

Additionally, the location of the transformer unit on a narrow road leading to the busy main road often causes traffic disruptions. The road frequently becomes obstructed by cranes and other machinery during the repair operations.

Manoj Purohit, an engineer of MSEDCL, stated, “This occurs once in a while. Damages may have occurred due to recent road work, but we have made the necessary repairs.”

Mahesh Deshmukh, additional executive engineer of MSEDCL, echoed Purohit’s sentiment, saying, “It’s not a persistent problem but we will have the area supervisor look into this matter.”

With the most recent transformer repair completed just 10 days ago, Gajanan Nagar inhabitants are hopeful that a lasting resolution to their recurring electricity and water issues is on the horizon.
