Pune, 2nd August 2024: The Pune traffic police have pinpointed 554 potholes at key Chowks throughout the city. The identification process, which took place over two days and concluded on Wednesday, aims to address the issues caused by these potholes.

Following heavy traffic congestion and significant rainfall in recent days, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar directed a thorough examination of the road conditions, particularly at traffic intersections. The traffic police conducted this study between Tuesday and Wednesday, covering 317 junctions across the city.

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil stated, “Our primary focus was on identifying potholes that are causing traffic jams at crucial junctions. Traffic personnel from various divisions surveyed the major junctions, capturing images of the potholes.”

These potholes not only disrupt traffic flow but also pose a risk of accidents. The police plan to collaborate with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to expedite the patching of these potholes. “We will discuss the findings with PMC officials and request them to repair the potholes within the next two days,” Patil added.

The Wanowrie traffic division reported the highest number of potholes, identifying 85 at different junctions along Pune-Solapur Road. Specific areas mentioned in their report include Golibar Maidan, Mummadevi, Turf Club, CDEO, and Jagtap junctions, all of which have significant potholes hampering vehicle movement.

The Swargate traffic division noted 46 major potholes at intersections on Pune-Satara and Pune-Solapur roads, with problematic areas including Swargate, Dhobi Ghat, Market Yard, Dhole Patil, and Vega Center junctions. Additionally, the older parts of the city have numerous potholes, with 41 identified at major intersections on Shivaji Road, Bajirao Road, and Tilak Road.
