Khadakwasla, 1st May 2023: Thousands of tourists thronged to the Khadakwasla Dam area during the Maharashtra Day holiday and school summer vacation, leading to dangerous situations and traffic chaos.

Tourists were seen venturing into the water of the Khadakwasla dam without any safety measures in place, while vehicles were parked haphazardly in the Chowpatty area, obstructing traffic and leading to long queues of vehicles in the area.

Despite the traffic chaos and danger to visitors, authorities have not taken any measures to address the issue.

Adding to the traffic jam, tourists who had visited other areas such as Sinhagad, Panshet, and Varasgaon were returning from their trips, further increasing the number of vehicles in the area. Police personnel from Haveli Police Station and District Traffic Branch attempted to manage the situation, but unruly tourists made it difficult for them to do so.

To tackle the situation, traffic police have been deployed to manage the traffic, and other police personnel have been asked to provide assistance. Officials plan to coordinate with the Irrigation Department to put in place measures to prevent tourists from entering the dam area. However, tourists are also urged to act responsibly and take safety precautions while visiting the area.

“We are coordinating with the Irrigation Department and have deployed traffic police to ensure smooth traffic. Other police personnel are also providing assistance. We will also make arrangements to prevent tourists from entering the dam area. It is also important for tourists to act responsibly and ensure their safety while visiting the area,” said Sachin Wangde, Police Inspector at Haveli Police Station.
