Viman Nagar, 13th January 2024: A Pune to Goa flight experienced a brief delay on Thursday as Mumbai police deboarded and arrested a 29-year-old conman traveling with his girlfriend for a holiday. Ganesh Ashok Bhalerao, residing in Kharadi, Pune, was apprehended by the Mulund police on charges of cheating, breach of trust, and violations under the Information Technology Act.

Bhalerao was presented before the Mulund Metropolitan Magistrate court, which remanded him into police custody. The arrest stemmed from allegations that Bhalerao duped a Mulund resident of Rs 84,000 by falsely offering to sell a secondhand iPhone.

According to police reports, in August, the victim sought a secondhand iPhone on OLX and received a call from an individual identifying as Rajendra Kohli. “Our team, with technical assistance, traced the IP address of the accused and discovered that he was about to board a flight to Goa. Acting swiftly, a police team, led by Inspector Kanthilal Kothambire, Adinath Gawde, and Shivanand Apune, reached Pune airport and requested the airline to deplane the accused,” stated Purshottam Karad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7).

The arrest revealed that the accused intended to fund his holiday with the ill-gotten gains. Authorities are now investigating whether Bhalerao has been involved in other cases of cheating.
