Pune To Get Direct Connection With Mumbai Sea Link, MMRDA Approves Rs 947 Crores Project

Thane, 19th March 2022: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to connect the Mumbai Port project, i.e. Sewri-Nhava Sheva sea bridge at a cost of Rs 947 crores 25 lakh. After leaving Worli, one will be able to reach the Mumbai-Pune Expressway directly from the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Sea Link. At a recent meeting, the expenditure was approved administratively. This work of 947 crores 25 lakhs will be done in two phases.

The first phase of this is at Rs. 85 crore 50 lakh for interchange and service road at Chirle. In the second phase, the Mumbai Port project will be directly connected to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway through various works for Rs 861 crore 75 lakh. It also includes Rs 150 crores for land acquisition of 30 hectares of land. Work on the Mumbai Port project is underway in four packages and an expenditure of Rs 17,843 crore has been approved on June 3, 2016. Work on the project is currently at full pace.

1) To connect the Porbandar project with State Highway No. 104 from Chirle, a new 1.5 km 3 by 3 lane road will be constructed.

2) State Highway No. 104 is a 2 by 2 lane from Chirner to Gawanpada and is further connected to National Highway 348 near Panvel. It will now be a 4 by 4 lane.

3) The traffic coming and going from the Porbandar project is connected from National Highway 348 to National Highway 48 at a distance of 2.5 km on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. These roads are currently 2 by 2 lanes and will now be 4 by 4 lanes.

4) In order to divert the traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, an interchange will be constructed at Kon and the traffic will be smoothened without any hindrance.

5) The interchange at Chirle includes work on four loops and service roads. Accordingly, Package 3 includes two loop functions; However, the remaining two loops and service road will be constructed to facilitate traffic.
