Hinjawadi, 5th August 2024: Three men, who had been on the run after robbing imitation jewelry worth ₹16,700 from a jewelry showroom at Laxmi Chowk in Hinjawadi on Friday morning, were apprehended by Sindhudurg police at Amboli on Saturday afternoon. The police also recovered two country-made pistols from the suspects.

The incident took place at Shivmudra Jewellers, where the trio, armed with firearms, stormed in and robbed the showroom at gunpoint. Their attempt to steal more jewelry was thwarted by the resistance of the owner, Sudhakar Patil. The robbers then fled the scene in a car.

Sub-inspector Tukaram Shelke of the Hinjawadi police stated, “We were tracking the suspects and received information that they were heading towards Amboli Ghat. We immediately alerted the local police.”

Assistant sub-inspector Datta Desai of the Sawantwadi police elaborated on the operation. “The Hinjawadi police informed us about a gang of robbers traveling towards Pune via the Amboli Ghat section. We set up a roadblock at the entrance of the Ghat. When we spotted their car, we blocked its path. Although they attempted to flee, we successfully apprehended them,” Desai said.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Altaf Khan (24), Govinde Diwani (23), and Raturam Bishnoi (26), all residents of Hinjawadi. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act. “The trio was produced before the court on Sunday and has been remanded to police custody until August 6,” Desai added.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they worked at a furniture shop located near Shivmudra Jewellers. “The trio mentioned that they had disputes with the furniture shop owner over unpaid wages, which led them to concoct a plan to commit the robbery,” Desai explained.
