Khadakwasla, 29th November 2023: In a disconcerting incident near the Bhairavnath temple in Khadakwasla village, thieves targeted the residence of Aditya Rajendra Mate, the former deputy sarpanch, making away with gold ornaments weighing 27 tolas.

The incident unfolded yesterday when, after a family wedding, the women of Mate’s house adorned themselves with jewellery. Following the celebration, the ornaments were securely placed in a locker within the house, and the key was stowed away in a separate location. This morning, upon returning from a temple event, the women discovered the cupboard open, revealing the absence of the valuable ornaments.

Aditya Mate promptly reported the theft to the Haveli police station (Pune rural police), initiating the process of filing a case against the unidentified culprits. Assistant Police Inspector Sagar Pawar and other personnel from the Haveli Police Station inspected Mate’s residence.

The investigation suggests a level of insider knowledge, as the thief seemingly accessed the house using the hidden key, removed the jewellery from the closet, relocked the house, and returned the key to its original concealment.

Police are further investigating the case.
