Pune: Thieves Posing as Police Scam Victims Near Pimpri Bridge, Rob Thousands of Rupees

Pimpri, 17th May 2024: A person fell victim to a scam where thieves impersonating policemen duped him and his friends of thousands of rupees. The impostors approached the group near Pimpri Bridge, accusing them of selling ganja, and coerced them into giving money. This incident occurred at 4 PM on May 6th.

Sohail Gulfam Khan (23, resident of Thergaon) filed a complaint at Pimpri Police Station. The police have registered a case against two unknown perpetrators.

According to police reports, the complainant and his friends were traveling towards Pimpri in an autorickshaw when, near Pimpri Bridge, two unknown individuals on a two-wheeler intercepted the autorickshaw. The accused claimed to be from the Crime Branch and alleged that the complainant possessed ganja (marijuana). They pretended to conduct an investigation, and then threatened and robbed the complainant and his friends. The thieves took Rs. 13,000 from the complainant and Rs. 10,000 each from his friends before fleeing. The complainant realized they were not police officers and had been deceived.

In response, the police have registered a case under IPC Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 170 (personating a public servant). Police Sub-Inspector Bhandwalkar from Pimpri Police Station is further investigating this matter.

In another incident in Pimpri, an unknown individual stole Rs. 2,05,000 from a leather bag placed beneath the seat of an ST bus. A female complainant reported the theft to the Pimpri Police Station, resulting in a case being registered against the unknown perpetrator under IPC Section 379 (theft).
