Pune: Theft Mars Maratha Reservation Peace Rally in Pune; Valuables Worth Rs 9 Lakh Stolen

Pune, 12th August 2024: Thieves targeted participants of a peace rally held in Pune city yesterday in support of the Maratha reservation, stealing gold chains, mobile phones, and cash. Valuables worth an estimated ₹9 lakh were reported stolen in multiple incidents, leading to the registration of cases at Swargate and Vishrambaug Police Stations.

The peace rally, led by activist Manoj Jarange-Patil, drew thousands of participants. Taking advantage of the large crowd, thieves managed to steal valuables from several attendees. In one incident, a gold chain worth ₹92,000 was snatched from a young man near Phutka Buruj on Bajirao Road. Pranay Laxman Palaskar, a 32-year-old resident of Laxmi Nagar, Parvati, has filed a complaint at Vishrambaug Police Station. The theft occurred around 7 p.m. yesterday while Palaskar was passing through Kadbe Ali on Bajirao Road. Police constables are conducting a thorough investigation.

In a separate incident, two people were robbed of a gold chain worth ₹85,000 in the Sarasbaug area. Prakash Suresh Suryawanshi, a 42-year-old resident of Narhe, lodged a complaint at Swargate Police Station. The theft took place yesterday afternoon while Suryawanshi and his acquaintance, Datta Tupe, were in Sarasbaug.

At Jedhe Chowk in the Swargate area, a thief stole ₹57,500 in cash from a participant’s pocket. Balasaheb Dnyaneshwar Pilaware, a 54-year-old resident of Ghorpade Peth, has reported the theft to Swargate Police Station.

Additionally, a gold chain worth ₹3,30,000 was stolen from Satyawan Laxman Jagtap, a 51-year-old resident of Malegaon, Baramati, while he was at Jedhe Chowk with his acquaintances Jalandhar Surawase and Surendra Kadam. Another gold chain of the same value was stolen from Deepak Bapu Bandal, a 37-year-old resident of Wadachi Wadi, at the same location. Police Sub-Inspector Rathore is leading the investigation into these cases.
