Pune, 30th December 2023: After years of anticipation and persistent issues surrounding accidents and traffic congestion, the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur 548D highway, along with the national highways Pune to Shirur and Nashik Phata to Khed, has finally progressed to the tender stage. The announcement brings relief to the citizens and transporters in the villages along the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur highway, despite controversies among various political parties and leaders.

The Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur highway, located in the newly developed industrial belt, witnesses heavy traffic comprising small and heavy vehicles. Designated as a national highway five years ago, the project faced delays with only paper announcements of funds. However, progress resumed last year when the National Highways Authority of India conducted a thorough third-party consultancy survey, submitting a detailed project report for approval.

Having received approval, the authority initiated the tender process on December 21, releasing a tender for the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur highway and another tender of Rs 2,778.53 crore for a four-deck flyover spanning 28 km from Chakan to Shikrapur on a build-use-transfer basis.

The tender process is set to conclude on February 7, raising hopes that the actual work will commence shortly after assigning the project. During the construction phase, there might be temporary traffic diversions on the Talegaon-Chakan road through alternative routes. Initial four-lane improvements to the existing road could bring relief from traffic jams.

The tender details are available on the National Highways Authority of India website since December 21, 2023. The work order will be awarded to the qualified contractor following the standard operating procedure outlined by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
