Pune: Teenager Sexually Assaulted By Inmate at Mental Hospital In Yerawada, Inmate and Hospital Staff Booked

Pune 4th July: In a shocking incident reported inside the Regional Mental Hospital of Yerawada, a 16-year-old boy who was admitted for the treatment here was sexually assaulted by an inmate. The incident took place between May 30 and July 26.

 

The victim teenager detained in an attempt to murder case by police was referred to psychological treatment at Regional Mental Hospital in Yerawada. He was granted bail by the court in the last week of June.

 

The incident came to light after the boy was admitted to a boarding school by his family in Kolhapur where he started feeling pain in his hand. He was taken to a hospital where an X-ray revealed that there were total 18 injection needles in his hand. When asked about it, the boy opened up about the sexual assault in the Mental Hospital and also informed that he was given sedatives.

 

After hearing the story from boy, the family reached out to Juvenile Justice Board in Pune seeking action on the matter. The board directed the city police to register a case of sexual assault in the matter. It was also directed that the hospital staff responsible for concealing the incident and neglecting the boy’s health should also be booked.

 

The Yerawada Police have booked a 34-year old inmate and four member of the hospital including a nurse and four guards of the mental hospital in the case. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
