Pune, 23rd April 2025: Baramati MP Supriya Sule spoke to Pune reporters regarding the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam area, emphasising the gravity of the situation and the need for responsible communication.

Sule said, “Yesterday, during a meeting in Delhi about the One Nation election, we received information about the incident. All MPs were present, and we were getting bits of information.”

She added, “We contacted Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the evening to gather more details and began following up immediately. We later learned that two people from Pune might have been injured.” Highlighting the seriousness, Sule remarked, “No matter how much we condemn this, it will never be enough. This is an extremely grave matter.”

Sule urged restraint until official statements are released, saying, “Until the Home Ministry issues an official statement, everyone should exercise responsibility in their comments.” She also noted ongoing rescue efforts: “Many people are still trapped in various areas, and all agencies are actively working to help.”

Rejecting politicisation, she stated, “Now is not the time for criticism. The priority must be the safety of Indian citizens.” Sule called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to convene an all-party meeting after assessing the situation: “After they have gathered all information, they should hold a briefing with all parties.”

Addressing logistical challenges, Sule said, “Tickets for flights back are now very expensive. I have tried contacting the aviation and railway authorities. This is not the time to make profits. Ensuring everyone returns home safely is everyone’s responsibility.”

The deadly attack on April 22 in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley left at least 28 dead and over 20 injured, mostly tourists, and has been claimed by the Pakistan-based militant group The Resistance Front. The incident has drawn nationwide condemnation and intensified security operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
