Pune, 11th July 2024: In boxes of cosmetics products, liquor was being smuggled from Goa, which was busted by the Pune State Excise Department. In this action, liquor stock worth Rs 1 crore 28 lakh and a truck totalling more than Rs 1.50 crores were seized. This action took place on Pune-Satara Road in the Khed Shivapur area on Wednesday.

The Pune State Excise Department has arrested Sunil Chakraborty in connection with this incident. Compared to Maharashtra, Goa has lower liquor expenses. The tax on liquor is lower in Goa; as a result, compared to almost all states in India, Goa has cheaper liquor. Smuggling of Goa’s liquor frequently occurs, and the Pune State Excise Department received information that smuggling was going to take place in the Pune district. Regarding illegal liquor sales, actions have already been taken against pubs and bars in Pune. To stop unlawful liquor sales and smuggling, patrols are being conducted by teams from the Pune State Excise Department.

“A confidential source had informed Pune State Excise Department officials that a truck smuggling liquor illegally was in the Khed Shivapur area. Our team set a trap, and the suspected truck was intercepted. When they checked the front, there were boxes of cosmetics, but when the back was inspected, liquor smuggled from Goa was found”, Pune Excise Superintendent Charan Singh Rajput told Punekar News.
