Pune, 28th February 2023: The application process has begun for the second time for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), which has been vacant since last year. The application process, which began once earlier, was suspended. 30th March is the deadline for applications under the newly implemented process.

Dr Nitin Karamalkar’s period as Vice-Chancellor concluded in May 2022. After that, the post of the Vice-Chancellor of Pune University was entrusted to the Vice Chancellor of Babasaheb Ambedkar Technical University, Dr Karbhari Kale.

The Vice-Chancellor selection process was stalled as the Governor did not approve the changes made by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the University Act. The state government scrapped the proposed changes to the University Act after the transfer of power in July.

Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee was appointed in September. Accordingly, the advertisement for submission of applications for the post of Vice-Chancellor was published. However, the state government announced the implementation of the Vice-Chancellor selection process as per the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Therefore, the application process was suspended. A new committee, including a representative of UGC, was appointed a few days ago.

Through this committee, applications for the post of Vice-Chancellor have been invited by starting the selection process and publishing the advertisement for the second time. 30th March is the deadline for the submission of applications. Nominations of suitable candidates can also be sent to the institution.
