Pune, 15th August 2024: The Army’s Southern Command Headquarters in Pune celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with a series of events that showcased the nation’s rich heritage, patriotic fervor, and the bravery of its soldiers.

The celebrations were led by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, who, along with military personnel and veterans, paid tribute to fallen heroes during a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Command War Memorial.

The day was marked by the enthusiastic display of the National Flag under the ‘हर घर तिरंगा’ campaign, symbolizing national unity and pride across the Southern Command.

In a move towards environmental conservation, the Southern Command initiated a tree plantation drive under the theme ‘एक पेड़ माँ के नाम.’ As part of this initiative, the Army Commander and personnel planted saplings throughout Pune Cantonment, reflecting the Indian Army’s dedication to a greener environment. Across the Southern Command, over one lakh saplings, including fruit-bearing and medicinal plants, were planted by various Army units and formations.
