Pune: Software Engineer Duped of Rs 28 Lakhs in Black Magic Scam, Case Registered

Vishrantwadi, 11th July 2023: A disturbing incident has come to light involving a software engineer who was deceived by individuals involved in a black magic scam. The 33-year-old software engineer from Dhanori has filed a complaint at Vishrantwadi police station, Pune city police.

The police have registered a case under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, against three individuals and an astrologer.

According to the police, the complainant, residing in Dhanori, was advised by his wife’s brother to engage in witchcraft for domestic harmony. In collusion with an astrologer, they defrauded the complainant of Rs 28 lakhs under the pretext of conducting various rituals and pujas to alleviate the family’s problems and physical ailments.

The Vishrantwadi Police have booked Abhishek Kulkarni (35), Vijay Govind Jadhav (30, resident of Indapur), and Sadashiv Fode (37, resident of Indapur). The fraudulent activities took place between March 2021 and August 2021.

The complainant works as a software engineer in a company. His wife’s brother introduced him to Abhishek Kulkarni, claiming he was a skilled palmist and astrologer. Kulkarni visited the complainant’s home and after examining his hand, insisted on the installation of a machine to alleviate the family’s problems. The complainant quoted a price of Rs 17 lakhs 46 thousand for this device.

Vijay Govind Jadhav, the brother of the plaintifcomplainant’s wife, informed him that the cost of the machine was Rs. 2 lakhs 89 thousand. The complainant transferred money to the bank account of Sadashiv Fode, who served as the driver for Abhishek Kulkarni. Fode delivered the machine to the complainant’s residence and installed it, temporarily alleviating the disturbances.

However, the astrologer continued to highlight other issues within the household, demanding money for rituals related to coronavirus resistance, Pidrodosh, and domestic peace. On one occasion, Abhishek Kulkarni visited the complainant’s house, stating that both the complainant and his brother needed to undergo worship to address physical defects. Rituals were performed at Kulkarni’s residence, involving the creation of dough statues and adorning them with household ornaments.

Subsequently, the statues were to be taken to a Math where they would undergo eight days of worship. The statues, adorned with jewellery, were taken away, but Kulkarni never returned as promised. When questioned, the complainant’s brother-in-law claimed ignorance of the matter.

Senior Police Inspector Dattatray Bhapkar stated that the complainant approached the police and filed a complaint. It has now come to light that the relative, in collaboration with an astrologer, swindled the plaintiff of Rs 20 lakhs and 25 tolas of gold.
