Pune: Sikandar Sheikh Triumphs in Maharashtra Kesari 2023-24, Defeating Shivraj Rakshe in the Finale

Phulgaon, 10th November 2023: In the finale of the Maharashtra Kesari 2023-24, Sikandar Sheikh from Washim emerged victorious, defeating the defending champion Shivraj Rakshe and securing the prestigious title of ‘Maharashtra Kesari’ for the year. Sikandar Sheikh, playing in the soil category, had faced defeat in the previous Maharashtra Kesari competition but showcased an impressive comeback this year, clinching the title. He was honoured with a silver mace for his achievement.

The 66th Maharashtra Kesari Competition took place at Phulgaon in Pune, drawing attention from wrestling enthusiasts across the state. In the semi-final of the Gadi section, Shivraj Rakshe secured his spot in the final by defeating Harshad Kokate. On the other hand, Sikandar Sheikh made his way to the final by triumphing over Sandeep Mote with a decisive 10-0 victory in the soil category.

Last year, Sikandar Sheikh faced disappointment in the semi-finals of the Maharashtra Kesari tournament. However, this year marked a significant turnaround for him as he claimed the coveted title. The competition witnessed the participation of 42 teams from 36 districts and 6 municipal corporations, with each wrestling team comprising 20 wrestlers, 10 from the mat section, 10 from the soil section, along with 2 wrestling guides and 1 team manager
