Shivajinagar, 4th December 2023: Four years after the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) relocated its Shivajinagar bus stand to Wakdewadi, a decision has been made to reconstruct it at its original location. The proposal to establish a commercial complex adjacent to the bus stand, put forth by ST Corporation, was rejected by Mahametro. Subsequently, ST has opted to construct only the bus stand, with the finalized plan expected this week.

The original Shivajinagar ST bus stand occupied four acres of land, with one acre allocated to Mahametro for an underground metro station as per their agreement. Following the demolition of the Shivajinagar bus stand, it was temporarily relocated to the premises of the Dairy Development Department at Wakdewadi in 2019. The agreement stipulated that rent for this space would be paid to Dairy Development Department for a three-year period. However, four years have passed, and the Shivajinagar metro station is operational, while the ST bus stand remains at Wakdewadi.

Mahametro is set to construct the Shivajinagar ST bus stand, designing a ground floor, 21 platforms, and ST offices. MSRTCT initially proposed a commercial complex, prompting a letter from the Deputy General Manager of ST to Mahametro on May 4, requesting an examination of the commercial feasibility. Mahametro responded on August 22, emphasizing the impracticality of a commercial complex and urging the construction of an ST bus stand.

The former ST workshop at Shivajinagar station, relocated to Wakdewadi along with the ST bus stand, is now slated to move to Sangvi. Additionally, there is a pending demand to the state government for two and a half acres of land for the dairy development department’s workshop, with no decision yet from the government.
