Pune, 26th March 2022: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari today said that much talked about Shirur to Wagholi stretch on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway will have a public transport based on electricity above the planned three-deck flyover.

The total cost of the project on the flyovers is Rs 15,000 crore and if the distance between two piers is reduced using new technology then the cost of the project will reduce.

Gadkari was speaking during the inauguration of the Ultra High Performance Concrete Project at Kiwale near Pune-Mumbai Expressway.

Giving example of use of new technology in the construction of roads and bridges, Gadkari said, “A three-storey road will be constructed from Shirur to Wagholi. There will be an eight-lane road from Shirur to Wagholi, a six lane bridge above it and then another six lane bridge and at the top, there will be the facility for public transport on electricity.”

Giving an example, Gadkari said a project on the Brahmaputra river was to cost Rs 6,000 crore. “We have made changes in the technology and since then the project has cost Rs 680 crore”, said Nitin Gadkari.

A Malaysian company had given a presentation about how the distance between two piers can be 120 meters (we were constructing with only 30 meters). I had sent a team to study and they recommended using this technology. Now we are constructing bridges having a distance of 120 meters between two piers, Gadkari said.

Fiber steel is being used in this technology as factories like Ultra High Performance Concrete project are to be set up all over the country, as steel prices are increasing day by day. Such projects will be set up in many places in the country and in many states. If 50 to 60 factories are set up, it will be beneficial. Steel fiber will be used. We will reduce the use of steel and cement. New options will definitely lower rates, he added.
