Shewalewadi, 30th November 2023: A complaint has been filed with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the District Collector of Pune, urging them to halt the construction of the ‘Joyville’ project by the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, citing concerns over air and noise pollution.

According to the complainant Rahul Shewale, the deputy sarpanch of Shewalewadi and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ongoing construction of ‘Joyville’ in Shewalewadi has led to a significant increase in air and noise pollution within the vicinity. Consequently, he advocates for an immediate cessation of construction activities.

The complaint highlights the builder’s alleged deforestation during the construction process, with a substantial number of trees being cut down. Additionally, the influx of trucks transporting construction materials has risen, contributing to noise pollution, especially during late-night construction activities.

The detrimental impact of the construction on the environment is evident, leading to a surge in respiratory and other diseases among the residents. The disturbance caused by the nocturnal construction work has deprived citizens of peaceful sleep. Furthermore, Shewale points out that construction workers, in an inebriated state, wander around the village, posing additional concerns. Despite these issues, he questions the administration’s apparent indifference to the situation.

The complaint emphasizes that even the High Court of Bombay has recognized the alarming decline in air quality in Pune, underscoring the urgency for intervention in addressing the environmental challenges posed by the construction of ‘Joyville.’

A spokesperson for the company stated, “At Joyville Shapoorji Housing, our dedication to environmental sustainability and community well-being is unwavering. As a responsible developer, we understand the impact of construction activities on the environment. To mitigate these concerns, we have implemented stringent measures to control dust emissions, advanced construction methodologies to minimise noise, and invested in technologies that reduce our overall environmental footprint. Adhering strictly to all governing laws and regulations is a cornerstone of our ethos. Our focus on environmental stewardship remains steadfast.”
