Pune, 23rd July 2024: The Lonavla rural police have registered a case against seven tourists for rioting and violating prohibitory orders in Ambegaon, Pavananagar, and Bhaje waterfall areas. This action follows a recent incident where five members of the same family were swept away by a waterfall in the Bhushi Dam area.

The District Collector issued a prohibitory order at the tourist spot in response to the accident. Police Inspector Kishore Dhumal of the Lonavala Rural Police Station stated that action was taken against the seven tourists under Section 223 (Disobedience to Order Promulgated by Public Servant) of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS) for disregarding the order.

Inspector Dhumal explained that tourists often engage in dangerous activities, ignoring police safety instructions and putting themselves at risk by venturing into hazardous areas like waterfalls. On July 21 (Sunday), around 2 PM, action was taken against five tourists at the Ambegaon waterfall and two tourists in the Bhaje caves area for such behavior. So far, the Lonavala rural police have registered cases against 15 tourists for similar violations.

Lonavala, a popular destination during the rainy season, attracts many tourists from Pune, Mumbai, and surrounding rural areas. While enjoying the scenic beauty, tourists are urged to follow safety guidelines and avoid actions that could endanger their lives. Inspector Dhumal emphasized that instructions and warning boards have been placed at tourist spots, and strict action will be taken against those who violate the District Collector’s orders in the future.
