Pune, 13th October 2024: A fire broke out on the ground floor of a building on Prabhat Road, Pune, on Sunday evening, gutting five two-wheelers and one motorcycle. Two cars parked nearby were also damaged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although an 80-year-old woman was hospitalized after being rescued from the smoke-filled building.

The incident occurred around 7:57 p.m. at Krishna Niwas, a two-storied building located in the Kamala Nehru Park area. The fire started among the two-wheelers parked on the ground floor, and quickly spread to three nearby cars, filling the building with thick smoke. Panic ensued as residents scrambled for safety.

Firefighters responded swiftly, with three fire engines and water tankers arriving at the scene. Under the leadership of Officer Gajanan Pathrudkar, the fire brigade personnel, including Officer Rajesh Jagtap, began relief operations. Wearing fire-resistant gear, the team tackled the heavy smoke in the stairwell and worked to control the blaze.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Using ladders, the firefighters successfully rescued seven people, including an elderly woman, from the upper floors of the building. The woman, visibly shaken, was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that an electric two-wheeler charging station was installed on the ground floor. The fire brigade suspects a short circuit in the station’s electrical system may have caused the fire. While the vehicles were severely damaged, residents expressed relief that no one was seriously injured.

“The fire likely started due to a short circuit in the charging station. Fortunately, all residents were safely evacuated, and no one sustained serious injuries,” said Fire Brigade officer Gajanan Pathrudkar.
