Pune, 29th July 2024: A schoolboy (about 12 years old) was swept away in the Mutha River near Poona Hospital around 5 pm today. Despite an immediate search operation, the boy remained missing late into the night.

A large volume of water has been released from the Khadakwasla dam. On Sunday night, water was released into the Mutha River, causing the bridge between Bhide and Shivane to be submerged again by Monday morning. Local residents were alerted due to the ongoing rainfall in the dam area, prompting the police to erect temporary barriers and close the Bhide bridge to traffic as water flowed over it.

The SM Joshi Bridge riverside near Poona Hospital was also heavily inundated. The schoolboy was reportedly sitting on a bench in the vicinity when he suddenly fell into the river. Alarmed citizens immediately called for help, and the incident was reported to the fire brigade. Fire brigade personnel swiftly initiated a search operation, but the boy remained unlocated as of late Monday night.
