Pune: Schoolboy Injured After Retired Army Officer’s Revolver Discharges in Dhankawadi

Dhankawadi, 17th October 2024: A 13-year-old schoolboy was injured in a firing incident after a revolver belonging to a retired army man was accidentally knocked over from a cupboard. The incident occurred in the Dhankawadi area of Pune. Sahakar Nagar police have registered a case against the former soldier. The injured boy has been identified as Abhay Nitin Shirke. His father, Nitin Hanumant Shirke (aged 40, a resident of Dhankawadi), has been charged in connection with the incident. Police Constable Hemant Raut has reported this incident to Sahakar Nagar police station.

Nitin Shirke, a retired army officer, now works as a security officer and holds a valid arms license. He had stored the loaded revolver in a bag inside the cupboard. His son Abhay, a seventh-grade student, was at home on Tuesday afternoon. Around 3:30 PM, Abhay opened the cupboard, and the bag containing the revolver fell to the ground. The revolver discharged after pressing against something, and a bullet struck Abhay in the leg. At the time of the incident, Abhay’s mother and younger brother were also at home.

Upon receiving information about the shooting, the police quickly arrived at the scene. A case was registered against Nitin Shirke for negligence, as the accident occurred due to his carelessness. Assistant Police Inspector Sagar Patil from Sahakar Nagar Police Station is conducting further investigations.
