Pune: Sassoon Hospital Doctor To Be Suspended For Abandoning Destitute Patient – Dean

Pune, 23rd July 2024: A complaint was made by a social worker named Dadasaheb Gaikwad at Yerawada Police Station, alleging serious misconduct by doctors and staff of Sassoon General Hospital. The allegations include some doctors abandoning destitute patients who come to the hospital, and taking them to remote places at night.

Kasba Peth MLA Ravindra Dhangekar demanded action from the Sassoon Hospital administration. The Dean of Sassoon General Hospital, Dr. Eknath Pawar, has written to MLA Dhangekar, promising action.

Recently, Sassoon General Hospital has been embroiled in several controversies, which have tarnished the reputation of this esteemed medical institution. Amidst these controversies, the new allegation of doctors abandoning destitute patients has emerged, which is considered one of the gravest sins a doctor can commit. Indian National Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar demanded action after a case was registered at Yerawada Police Station. Dr. Eknath Pawar, Head of the Department of Orthopedics at Grant Government Medical College, Mumbai, who also holds the additional charge of Dean of BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, has responded to Dhangekar.

In the letter, Dr Eknath Pawar wrote, “Regarding the issue raised by Dadasaheb Gaikwad of the Patient Support Foundation, who uploaded a video on YouTube demanding strict action against the doctors engaged in these inhumane activities, I want to inform you that an investigation has been started, and the related doctors have been suspended.”
