Pune, 27th August 2024: The deadline for the admission of students on the waiting list under the Right to Education (RTE) Act has been extended once again, providing a final opportunity for enrollment in the 25 percent reserved seats. The new deadline has been set for August 29, after which no further extensions will be granted.

According to the Director of Primary Education, Sharad Gosavi, a total of 61,157 students had secured admission by Monday night. However, more than 44,000 seats remain vacant. The RTE admission process is overseen by the Directorate of Primary Education, and this year, 1,05,242 seats were made available across 9,217 schools in Maharashtra. Out of the 2,42,516 applications submitted, 93,009 students have been admitted so far. The waiting list currently includes 71,276 students.

Initially, the admission window was open from July 23 to 31, with the deadline being extended twice. Following the lottery-based admission process, it was decided to allocate the remaining seats to students on the waiting list. A total of 23,850 students from the waiting list were given until August 26 to secure their admissions. With the latest extension, these students now have until August 29 to complete the process.
