Pune, 1st October 2024: Over the past 2.5 years, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has spent ₹20 crore on efforts to control the stray dog and cat population. The highest expenditure of ₹9.37 crore was incurred in the financial year 2023-24.

Despite PMC’s claims of sterilizing nearly one lakh dogs and vaccinating over 1.25 lakh dogs during this period, citizens have raised concerns, alleging that the efforts are ineffective.

Although the PMC has been conducting sterilization and vaccination drives, the stray dog population appears to remain unchanged, and incidents of dog attacks have not decreased. Many residents feel that the PMC’s sterilization and vaccination programs have failed, causing ongoing issues in the city.
