Pune, 23rd December 2023: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar declared a fund allocation of Rs 100 crores for the expansion of the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule memorial. Emphasizing the need for an attractive and grand design, Pawar made the announcement during a meeting at the Government Rest House discussing the expansion of the National Memorial Bhidewada, Mahatma Phule Wada, and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial.

The meeting, attended by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal (via video conferencing system), Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Ramesh Chavan, and Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne, focused on planning and executing the expansion project.

Pawar emphasized the importance of selecting the best plan for the memorial’s expansion, considering various options. He urged the need for strategic planning for land acquisition and the rehabilitation of citizens in the expansion area.

Proposing a modern girls’ training facility within the premises of the Bhidewada Memorial, Pawar highlighted the need for space-efficient planning. The memorial building’s design should reflect an aged exterior while being well-furnished internally.

Incorporating inspirational elements from Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule’s work and modern educational facilities, the National Memorial at Bhidewada aims to motivate and educate. Pawar assured government cooperation for the realization of this vision.

Minister Bhujbal emphasized the significance of Bhidewada as the first girls’ school and proposed the establishment of a modern girls’ school with contemporary educational amenities. The building’s exterior should evoke a vintage look, adorned with sculptures depicting Savitribai Phule’s life and work.

Ensuring facilities for girls to prepare for competitive exams, Bhujbal suggested the formation of a committee of exemplary teachers to oversee education. He recommended naming the building ‘Savitribai Phule First Girls’ School’.
