Pune: Rohini Hattangadi to Receive Inaugural Jeevan Gaurav Award at Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad’s 27th Anniversary

Pimpri Chinchwad, 8th August 2024: On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad’s Pimpri Chinchwad branch, veteran drama and film actress Rohini Hattangadi will be honored with the first-ever Jeevan Gaurav Award, as announced by the branch’s President, Bhausaheb Bhoir. Each year, on its anniversary, the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad recognizes artists from Maharashtra and the local community in theatre and other cultural fields with various awards.

Beginning this year, the prestigious Jeevan Gaurav Award will be presented to a distinguished senior artist in the field of theatre. This year’s inaugural award will go to the esteemed theatre and film actress Rohini Hattangadi. The ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow at 5:30 PM at Prof. Ramkrishna More Auditorium in Chinchwad. The event will conclude in the presence of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad’s chief executive, Ajit Bhure, who will also conduct an interview with Rohini Hattangadi following the award presentation.

Additionally, the event will honor renowned narrator Shrikant Chowgule, actor Pankaj Chavan, actress Komal Shirbhate, lavani dancer Asha Rupa Parbhanikar, and dramatist Nataraj Jagtap, among others, for their achievements. MLC Amit Gorkhe, recently appointed to the Legislative Council from Pimpri Chinchwad, will also be recognized.

Rohini Jaydev Hattangadi is the only Indian actress to have received the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award, which she earned for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Kasturba Gandhi in Richard Attenborough’s film *Gandhi* (1982).

Originally from Pune, Rohini Hattangadi enrolled at the National School of Drama in Delhi, where she studied Kathakali and Bharatanatyam. She produced over 150 plays and acted in many more through the organization ‘Ashirwad,’ which she started with her husband.

Hattangadi made her film debut with Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s *Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan* (1978). She has been honored with two Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In addition to her extensive work in Marathi theatre and film, she has appeared in numerous television serials and films in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Gujarati languages. Some of her popular Hindi films include *Baipan Bhari Deva* (2023), *Arth* (1982), *Pratighaat* (1987), *Aaghaat* (2010), *Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!* (1984), *Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.* (2003), *Ghatak: Lethal* (1996), and *Damini* (1993).
