Pune: Robbers Shoot Trader Near Swargate And Loot Rs 4 Lakh Cash

Swargate, 20th July 2023: A horrifying incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Swargate area of Pune, where a trader was shot and robbed of Rs four lakh in cash. The inured trader is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The victim, identified as Latesh Hasmukhlal Suratwala (51 years old, residing in Manikbagh, Sinhagad Road), runs a tobacco-cigarette selling business in Nana Peth. He was returning home on his two-wheeler around 9:30 pm, carrying a substantial sum of four lakhs in cash.

While heading towards Sarasbagh from Jedhe Chowk, Suratwala noticed three assailants following him on another two-wheeler. The situation quickly turned violent near the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, where the attackers fired four bullets at Suratwala from country made pistol. Two bullets struck him in the back, and one in his thigh, causing serious injuries.

Suratwala is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable. Senior Police Inspector of Swargate, Sunil Zaware, stated that the police are conducting a thorough investigation to locate and apprehend the attackers.

It has been revealed that the assailants had been tracking Suratwala for several days before the attack. They attempted to rob him on July 6 and made another failed attempt on July 9. To avoid further danger, Suratwala altered his route home on Wednesday. However, he did not report these incidents to the police, as confirmed by Inspector Zaware.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the perpetrators to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
