Hinjawadi, 8th June 2024: A 30-year-old minibus driver was booked on Thursday evening for assaulting a 32-year-old software engineer following a heated argument over reckless driving in Vinode Vasti. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM, leaving the engineer with head injuries.

The confrontation began when the software engineer, returning home with his wife from an IT company in Hinjawadi, encountered the minibus driver attempting to overtake and block his car on a narrow road.

According to Assistant Inspector Prashant Mahale of the Hinjawadi police, ongoing roadwork had further constricted the already narrow path, exacerbating the situation.

The software engineer, a resident of Tathawade, reportedly advised the minibus driver to drive more cautiously, which led to the driver verbally abusing him. The engineer then exited his car to approach the minibus, leading to a physical altercation. The minibus driver slapped the engineer, pushed him to the ground, and banged his head twice on the road.

The victim’s wife raised an alarm and called the police, while bystanders detained the suspect until authorities arrived. The police promptly sent the injured engineer to a hospital for preliminary treatment. Later that night, he lodged a formal complaint at the police station.

The minibus driver has been charged under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means), 341 (wrongful restraint), and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act.

“We have issued a notice to the minibus driver, asking him to join the police investigation as the offences are bailable, carrying punishments of less than three years,” Assistant Inspector Mahale stated.
