Pune, 22nd August 2024: A chartered accountant (CA) from Mumbai was attacked by four individuals in Keshavnagar on Monday evening after his car unintentionally splashed water on them.

The incident occurred around 5:45 pm near Jan Seva Bank when the victim’s vehicle drove through a deep pothole, spraying water on two men on a bike and two pedestrians. The men retaliated by kicking, punching, and assaulting the accountant with a wooden stick.

The victim, Yash Manwani, a 29-year-old resident of Vikhroli in Mumbai originally from Bhopal, sustained injuries to his back, waist, left leg, and right hand. After receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Kharadi on Tuesday, Manwani filed a complaint with the Mundhwa police.

“I was on my way to Keshavnagar to pick up my brother and sister for Rakshabandhan when my car hit a deep pothole near Jan Seva Bank,” Manwani recounted. “The water splash from the pothole soaked two men on a bike and two pedestrians walking nearby. The biker chased my car for a short distance and kicked the driver’s side, forcing me to stop.”

Manwani explained that when he rolled down his window to explain that the splash was unintentional, the situation quickly escalated. “The biker and his pillion rider confronted me, and soon the two pedestrians joined in. Despite my suggestion to go to the nearby police station, they refused and began verbally abusing and physically assaulting me.”

The attack intensified when one of the men picked up a wooden stick from nearby and struck Manwani on his back and other parts of his body. The attackers also vandalized the right side front door of his car before leaving the scene.

Investigating officer Ramesh Ugale provided an update on the case, stating, “Thanks to eyewitness accounts, we have identified three of the four attackers. One of them, a casual laborer from Keshavnagar, has been detained. We are continuing our efforts to identify and apprehend the fourth individual.”

Ugale also mentioned that police responded quickly after receiving information about the incident. “A team arrived at the scene and took Manwani to a nearby hospital for treatment. Although the victim could not identify his attackers because they were strangers to him, witness testimonies have been crucial in our investigation.”
