Pune, 2nd June 2021: The work for Pune ring-road project is in full swing. Recently, in a meeting between Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials, it was decided that land acquisition should be done by PMRDA and construction of roads should be done by the NHAI. The PMRDA will soon send a proposal in this regard to the Central Government.

PMRDA has already decided to develop a ring road in the regional development plan. The total length of the ring road was 123.97 km. In the first phase, it was 90 meters wide, but in the meantime, it was decided to make it 110 meters wide, similar to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation’s (MSRDC) ring road. However, the width has been again reduced to 65 meters. Furthermore, PMRDA’s ring road was 123 km long but the distance between PMRDA and MSRDC is about 15 km.

In the villages where these two ring roads are overlapping, it was initially decided to exclude the MSRDC ring road of about 38.34 km. Thus, PMRDA’s ring road will now be 85.63 km long.

“In the PMRDA ring-road, the Pune – Satara road will be connected to Ahmednagar highway and it will pass through Haveli, Khed, Maval and Mulshi taluka. The PMRDA is planning to acquire land through Town Planning (TP) scheme”, said the NHAI officials.

“PMRDA’s ring road has already been included in ‘Bharatmala Pariyojana’ project. Therefore, land acquisition for this road should be done by PMRDA. A proposal has already been sent that the road development work should be done by the Highways Authority. The issue will be discussed at the meeting and the proposal will be sent to the Highways Authority again,” said Suhas Divase, CEO, PMRDA.
