Pune, 15 December 2022: Hosts Pune eased through their opener, but it was Mumbai who let loose and scored at will in the Western India Football Association (WIFA) Inter District Men’s (Open) Football Tournament 2022 at the Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi, on Thursday.

The tournament hosted by the Poona District Football Association (PDFA) had Pune record an 8-0 win over Beed with Sumit Bhandari (11th, 43rd, 46th, 73rd) sastaring with a four goal-effort after Sudeesh M (8th) opened the scoring. Three goals by Satish Hawaldar (25th, 68th, 80th) added up to the Pune tally and leave Beed a frustrated lot.

Mumbai, however, lit up the day in the early session of the day scoring a thumping 16-0 win over Jalna. Mumbai rode on two four-goal efforts by Himanshu Patil (9th, 18th, 24th, 40+1) and Arif Shaikh (20th, 36th, 61st, 68th) to run riot against a hapless Jalna. Ashley Koli (15th) gave Mumbai the early lead, while a three-goal effort by Johnson Mathew (44th, 47th, 74th) , a brace by Denzil Mascarenhas (56th, 71st) and a goal each by Ansari Armash (64th) and Sunny Thakur (75th) accounted to the biggest win of the tourney so far.
