Pune Reports Two New Zika Cases, Total Reaches 35

Pune, 24th July 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has confirmed two additional cases of the Zika virus, bringing the city’s total to 35, including 12 pregnant women.

One of the new cases is a 24-year-old pregnant woman from Bhusari Colony, Kothrud, who is 27 weeks pregnant. She began experiencing fever, red rashes, and joint pain on July 20. According to the PMC’s daily Zika report, her anomaly scan has shown no abnormalities. The second case involves a 35-year-old woman from Bibwewadi.

To date, the PMC has inspected over 42,000 homes, discovering mosquito eggs and larvae in 965 of them. In response to the outbreak, civic officials have tested 346 pregnant women in affected areas and plan to screen approximately 3,795 pregnant women registered with hospitals in those regions.

Zika cases have been identified in various parts of the city, including eight in Dahanukar Colony, seven in Erandwane, four each in Mundhwa and Pashan, three in Kharadi, two each in Ambegaon, Yerawada, Kalas, and Kondhwa, and one each in Lohegaon, Ghole Road, and Dhankawadi.
