Pune, 12th July 2024: On World Population Day, July 11, Pune’s status as one of India’s most densely populated cities comes into focus. According to the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects 2018, updated in April 2024, Pune is now the 9th most populated city in India, with a population of about 73,45,848—a 0.51% increase from last year.

As Maharashtra’s cultural and educational hub, Pune has experienced significant urban growth, contributing substantially to India’s overall population surge. This growth emphasizes the city’s pivotal role in the context of India’s rapidly expanding urban areas.
