Pune, 12th May 2023: Pune Railway Division is cracking down on passengers misusing the alarm chain pulling (ACP) system, which is meant to be used for emergencies only. Recent reports reveal a surge in ACP misuse by passengers for trivial reasons such as being late or alighting at intermediate stations. This misuse not only disrupts the train involved but also affects the punctuality of other trains in the network, causing inconvenience to countless passengers.

During the period from April 2022 to March 2023, a staggering 1404 cases of improper ACP have been officially recorded on Pune Railway Division alone. To combat this issue, railway authorities have taken strict measures, leading to the arrest of 1164 individuals involved in such acts. Additionally, a substantial fine totaling Rs. 3 lakh 19 thousand has been imposed on these passengers, aiming to deter further misuse of the alarm chain pulling system.

Indu Rani Dubey, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Pune, emphasized the need to control these violations due to the cascading effects they have on the entire Pune division rail network. The delays caused by unnecessary alarm chain pulling not only inconvenience passengers but also disrupt the smooth functioning of numerous other trains.

Railway officials are urging passengers to refrain from misusing the alarm chain pull for trivial matters. They emphasize that pulling the alarm chain without a genuine emergency is an offense punishable under Section 141 of the Railway Act. Instead, passengers are encouraged to arrive at the station at least 30 minutes prior to the departure time to avoid any inconvenience.
