Pune, 6th September 2023: The Pune railway division is actively pursuing its commitment to energy conservation through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. In line with this dedication, a state-of-the-art centralized substation with a capacity of 1600 KVA has been successfully commissioned at Pune station.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Divisional Railway Manager, Indu Dubey, on Wednesday, September 6th. Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Brijesh Kumar Singh, and Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Tarun Suyal, were also in attendance.

This innovative substation has been meticulously designed to enhance reliability and minimize downtime, ensuring a more stable and uninterrupted power supply to Pune station, the Railway hospital, Running room, and the goods shed, collectively consuming approximately 17 lakh units of electricity annually. The new substation is expected to result in annual electricity bill savings of approximately Rs. 6.80 lakhs.

The substation is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and follows the traction substation theme, marking it as the first of its kind on the Central Railway to operate at an impressive efficiency level of up to 99%. This heightened efficiency will lead to reduced energy losses and substantial cost savings. The substation benefits from two incoming power supply feeders provided by MSEDCL.

Replacing two substations with a combined capacity of 800 KVA, this new facility boasts double the capacity, enabling better management of electrical loads and accommodating future expansion requirements. The modern equipment within the substation prioritizes reliability, minimizing downtime and ensuring a consistent power supply. Enhanced safety features and improved protection mechanisms have also been incorporated to reduce the risk of electrical failures. Additionally, the new substation is equipped with SCADA systems, offering numerous advantages such as remote monitoring, control, and data recording for diagnostic purposes.

In conjunction with the commissioning of the substation, a tree planting initiative was undertaken, symbolizing the Pune railway division’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey led the tree planting efforts during the ceremony.
