Khopoli, 31st July 2024: On the morning of 29th July, Nitin Karade, Shital Salunkhe, and Santoshi Bastewad from the Forest Department were patrolling the Bhanwaj area of Khopoli when they heard birds chirping near thick bushes. Upon closer inspection, they discovered a python that was injured and lying dead. However, they noticed slight movements, indicating that the python was still alive.

They immediately reported the matter to Khalapur Taluka Forest Officer Rajendra Pawar and Officer Bhagwan Dalvi. Following their advice, the injured python was safely transported to the Forest Department office in Khopoli with the help of snake expert Nitesh alias Sonu Pawar.

Veterinarian Vishnu Kale examined the python and recommended treatment for its wounds, along with observation for some time. Hence, the python was cared for at Gurunath Sathelkar’s residence with the assistance of snake charmers Dinesh Oswal, Amol Thakekar, Navin More, Abhijit Gharat, Sukrit Gotaskar, and Vijay Bhosale.

Bhakti Sathelkar, Praveen Shendre, and other snake enthusiasts diligently followed the forest officials’ guidance, administering medicine, massaging the python, and force-feeding it to help regain its strength. As a result of these efforts, the python made a full recovery and exhibited its natural aggression and impatience to be freed. After a final medical check confirmed its full recovery, the python was released into a safe habitat.

The successful rescue and rehabilitation of the python highlight the commendable efforts of forest officials, veterinarians, and snake lovers in preserving this critical part of the ecosystem.
